The Edmonton Oilers were once again on the losing end of the Stanley Cup Final in Florida on Tuesday night. After falling to the Panthers in seven games in 2024, the Cats took care of business on home ice in six games this time around.
Shaking hands after a playoff series is one of the most unique parts of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Being able to congratulate your opponent on a hard-fought series after both sides left it all out there on the ice is a time-honored tradition.
The Panthers and Oilers engaged in that tradition again on Tuesday night, with Florida winning its second straight Cup.
Well, not all of the Oilers players shook hands with the victorious Panthers.
Oilers winger Evander Kane was given a 10-minute misconduct late in the third period of Edmonton’s Game 6 loss. He slashed Matthew Tkachuk not once but twice, earning him an early shower in the locker room.
Kane might still have been in the showers when the final horn sounded, as he did not return to the ice to shake hands with Tkachuk or any of the Panthers.
Kane has had his fair share of off-ice issues, and his on-ice incidents have earned him suspensions as well.
The veteran forward has one year left on his contract with the Oilers, so maybe he’ll get another chance to face off against the Panthers in the 2026 Stanley Cup Final.
