Anaheim added a former Harvard scorer on Monday, and it did not cost much.
The Ducks acquired forward Sean Farrell from the Canadiens in a trade for forward Sasha Pastujov. Both players remain without a contract for 2026-27, so this is a straight swap of restricted free agents who could use a change of address.
Anaheim made it official just after the Canadiens did:
Farrell was an intriguing name in Montreal’s system not long ago. The Canadiens took him 124th overall in the 2020 draft, and the Milton, Massachusetts native turned into a star at Harvard, putting up 30 goals and 81 points across 58 games with the Crimson.
The NHL time never really came. Farrell got into six games with the Canadiens after signing his entry-level deal and did not get many looks after that. He kept producing in the minors, though, with 46 goals and 125 points in 186 games for the AHL’s Laval Rocket and a career-high 53 points last season.
Pastujov heads the other way with a nearly identical resume. Anaheim drafted the 23-year-old 66th overall in 2021, and he led the AHL’s San Diego Gulls with 57 points in 2025-26. Over three years in the minors he has 48 goals and 124 points in 160 games.

Neither guy was going to crack a crowded depth chart where he was. Pastujov has the slightly higher offensive ceiling of the two, but both had stalled out behind younger prospects and needed a new organization to get a real shot.
The move fits the kind of summer Anaheim has been having, quietly stockpiling young forwards and betting on upside. The Ducks recently signed Nikita Klepov to an entry-level deal, and Farrell now joins that group of bounce-back candidates. He will need a new contract first before he suits up for anyone.
