Edmonton Oilers’ captain Connor McDavid broke down in tears following the 2024 Stanley Cup Final against the Florida Panthers. The Oilers rallied from a 3-0 series deficit before losing in Game 7.

Amazon Prime’s new documentary series shows the heartbreaking moment for the Oilers after Game 7. They had a camera on McDavid in the dressing room following the crushing 2-1 defeat. McDavid broke down in tears and was consoled by teammates Leon Draisaitl and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.

Here is the footage of McDavid crying, which shows the true agony of defeat in sports.

“There was a lot of pain, like I can’t even explain it to you”, McDavid stated in the documentary.

You have to feel for McDavid, who waited for over a decade for this moment, only to come up short. You can imagine he will be playing with extra fire in the 2024-25 season as he tries to avenge the loss. Given the Oilers ‘ looming cap situation, 2025 may be his best chance at the Cup.

McDavid had an incredible 2024 postseason, racking up a mind-blowing 42 points in 25 games. He led the league in playoff scoring by a mile, with the next closest guy trailing by 10 points. However, he couldn’t get on the scoresheet in the final two games.

Props to Amazon for capturing this gut-wrenching moment so beautifully, and the NHL for allowing cameras inside at such a raw moment. Hockey fans everywhere can understand the passion McDavid has for this great game.

You won’t see a reaction like this in any other sport.
