The Washington Capitals went out and got themselves a scorer.
Jordan Kyrou is heading to D.C. The St. Louis Blues picked up forward Connor McMichael, prospect Milton Gastrin and Washington’s first-round pick (No. 16 overall) in Tuesday’s trade.
Kyrou is 28 and coming off a quiet year by his standards, with 46 points (18 goals, 28 assists) in 72 games. He never dipped below 67 points in the four seasons before that and set a career high with 75 in 2022-23.
He carries plenty of term, too. Five years remain on the eight-year, $65 million contract he signed with St. Louis in 2022, a deal worth $8.125 million against the cap.
Here’s a look at what Washington is getting:
Capitals general manager Chris Patrick laid out the thinking behind the move.
“Jordan is an exceptionally talented and dynamic offensive player who will make an immediate impact on our club. At just 28 years old and under contract for the next five seasons, Jordan is entering the prime years of his career.”
Landing Kyrou matters even more with Alex Ovechkin’s future still up in the air. Washington is stocking up on offense either way.
For St. Louis, this is another step in a reset. The Blues missed the playoffs for the third time in four years, and the No. 16 pick gives them four first-rounders in the 2026 draft.
McMichael, 25, put up 46 points of his own last season and can become a restricted free agent on July 1. Gastrin, a 19-year-old taken 37th in 2025, had 24 points in 39 games for MoDo in Sweden.
Kyrou steps into a top-six role in Washington, and the Capitals are betting his down season was a blip and not a trend.
