The Vancouver Canucks are probably going to miss out on the Stanley Cup Playoffs. However, they just did something we’ve never seen in NHL history.

On Tuesday night, the reigning Pacific Division champions were down three goals with under a minute remaining in regulation against the Dallas Stars, one of the best teams in the league. What happened next was absolutely insane.

The Canucks scored three goals to tie the game at five and then ultimately won in overtime:

Wild. Autu Raty got the comeback started before Pius Suter scored the fourth and fifth. In overtime, Kiefer Sherwood played hero. The most impressive part is that Dallas is a legitimate Stanley Cup contender and the Canucks just made them look foolish.

Rick Tocchet’s squad really grinded out this victory, though, and showed guts. Conor Garland led the way with three helpers, while Filip Hronek and Quinn Hughes had two assists apiece as well.

Unfortunately, Vancouver still sits a ways back in the Wild Card race, and their schedule doesn’t get any easier, with the Colorado Avalanche, Minnesota Wild, and Vegas Golden Knights among their final four opponents. Elias Pettersson is also unlikely to play again in 2024-25 as he continues to rehab an upper-body injury he sustained in late March.

The Canucks are back in action on Thursday as they finish up their road trip against the Avs. After that, Vancouver returns home for the final three games of the campaign. They now have a 6-11 OT record this season.
