The Anaheim Ducks have traded longtime defenseman Cam Fowler to the St. Louis Blues, ending his remarkable 15-year run with the only NHL team he’s ever played for.

The trade, announced Saturday, sends Fowler to St. Louis in exchange for defense prospect Jeremie Biakabutuka and a 2027 second-round pick. The Ducks will eat 38.5% of Fowler’s $6.5 million contract, which helped make the deal work for the Blues.

The numbers tell the story of Fowler’s legacy in Anaheim. He sits second in franchise history with 991 games played, just behind Ryan Getzlaf. On the blue line, he’s the franchise leader in goals (96), assists (361), and points (457).

His story started back in 2010 when the Ducks grabbed him 12th overall, and he quickly became a rock on their defense. Anaheim acknowledged Fowlers’ contributions in a heartfelt social media post.

“This was a tough one considering what Cam has meant to this organization,” Ducks GM Pat Verbeek said. “He has been a valuable and respected member of our team for 15 seasons, representing the Ducks with ultimate class.”

For the Blues, Fowler could help fuel a playoff push. They’ve gone 5-2-1 since bringing in Jim Montgomery as head coach, and they’re looking to shore up their defense. Fowler, despite some recent struggles, brings veteran savvy and puck-moving skills that could get a boost in his new home.

This season, Fowler has picked up four assists in 17 games while logging 21:04 of ice time per night. While his offensive numbers have dipped, the Blues are banking on a fresh start to spark his game.

The trade clears the way for the Ducks’ young guns on defense. With Olen Zellweger, Pavel Mintukov, and Jackson LaCombe in the pipeline, moving Fowler gives these prospects their shot.

After missing the playoffs since 2018, Fowler gets another potential crack at postseason hockey. At 33, he joins a Blues team that’s making a push for the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Fowler leaves Anaheim after wearing the Ducks jersey for over a decade, capping off a career that saw him become one of the most important defensemen in team history.
