Brad Marchand does not think much of the idea of Tim Stutzle wearing a C.
The Panthers winger left a comment on a PuckEmpire Instagram post that named Stutzle, Thomas Chabot and Jake Sanderson as the finalists for Ottawa’s vacant captaincy. Here is what he wrote Tuesday:
“Hahahah ……stutzle….hahaha”

As of Wednesday morning, the comment was still sitting on the post.
Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Citizen reported last month that Steve Staios and Travis Green were closing in on a decision, with Chabot, Sanderson and Stutzle the three names in the mix. Ottawa wants the announcement out before training camp opens Sept. 16.
The job opened up June 21, when the Senators traded Brady Tkachuk to Florida after he asked out. Four draft picks came back.
Marchand is now Tkachuk’s teammate, which gives the chirp a second layer.
There is no known history between the two. They have been Atlantic Division opponents since Stutzle came into the league in 2020-21, with no fines or suspensions between them. Stutzle did carry a diver reputation early in his career, most loudly from Brendan Gallagher.
This is also just what Marchand does. He spent the middle of August chirping William Nylander over a workout photo.
Ottawa still has not named a captain. The Senators host the Panthers on Oct. 21 in the first of four meetings this season.
