The St. Louis Blues grabbed a big 4-2 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday evening, but they lost a key player in the process.
Defenceman Philip Broberg suffered a lower-body injury in the second period and never returned.
It wasn’t pretty, either. Broberg’s leg appeared to twist when he collided with Mitch Marner. Via Sportsnet:

Not a good sign. The 23-year-old had to be helped off the ice. Broberg has been fantastic for the Blues in 2024-25 after signing a two-year deal worth $9.16 million in the offseason, with the Edmonton Oilers refusing to match the offer sheet.
That proved to be a poor decision. The Swede is a key piece for St. Louis, already scoring twice and tallying seven assists in nine games. Following the victory over Toronto, netminder Jordan Binnington made it clear just how important Broberg is to this squad.
Via Sportsnet:
“He’s been battling so hard for us and taking hits,” Binnington said. “He’s a warrior though. I know he’ll be back as best he can and when he can, and it was good to see guys really step up and pick each other up.”
Fellow defenceman Colton Parayko admitted it was tough to see Broberg suffer such a gut-wrenching injury because he is truly a workhorse:
“He’s a huge part of our D corps and our team,” Parayko said. “He plays a lot of minutes, plays against a lot of the top lines, and is just great to have around the room and just a good person. Obviously, it’s tough to see.”
Blues head coach Drew Bannister didn’t have an update on the extent of the injury following the game. Broberg is tied for the team lead in points and will certainly be missed for however how much time he misses.
Stay tuned for more updates on Broberg’s injury.
