Bill Guerin isn’t going anywhere in Minnesota.
The Wild signed their president of hockey operations and general manager to a multi-year extension Tuesday, a deal ESPN’s Emily Kaplan was first to report. Terms weren’t disclosed for the reigning GM of the Year.
Guerin is 55 and has run the front office since 2019, when he replaced Paul Fenton. His 2023 extension added the president of hockey operations title on top of the GM job.
This one comes off the best year of his tenure. Guerin took home the Jim Gregory General Manager of the Year Award in June, the first Wild GM to ever win it, and he landed on 37 of 40 ballots as a top-three choice.
What got him there was a December blockbuster. Minnesota shipped Zeev Buium, Marco Rossi, Liam Ohgren and a first-round pick to Vancouver for Quinn Hughes, who put up five goals and 53 points in 48 games the rest of the way.
Three months before that, Guerin handed Kirill Kaprizov an eight-year, $136 million contract, the richest deal in league history. He also built the Team USA roster that won Olympic gold in Milan, the country’s first since 1980.

Minnesota went 46-24-12 for 104 points last season and finished third in the Central. The Wild knocked out Dallas in six games before Colorado ended their run in five.
Ownership already extended head coach John Hynes a week earlier, so the two people running the hockey side are both signed past this season.
One item is still sitting on the desk. Hughes has one year left and no extension, and Guerin now has the job security to chase the biggest signature of his career.
