Arturs Silovs has a thing for opening night.

The Penguins goalie stopped all 19 shots he faced Wednesday as Pittsburgh hammered the Flyers 7-0 at Xfinity Mobile Arena. It’s his second straight season-opening shutout after he blanked the Rangers 3-0 at Madison Square Garden to start the 2025-26 campaign.

Silovs wasn’t overworked, but he was sharp when Philly did get looks. Travis Konecny found that out the hard way:

The skaters made his night easy. Pittsburgh outshot Philadelphia 38-19 and scored at even strength, on the power play and shorthanded.

Nick Robertson opened the scoring 7:26 into the first, tipping a Kris Letang shot past Dan Vladar in his Penguins debut. Sidney Crosby picked up the second assist on the same night he started his record 20th season as Pittsburgh’s captain.

Watch Robertson’s deflection:

Ville Koivunen made it 2-0 on a breakaway late in the first. Evgeni Malkin then ripped a one-timer on the power play early in the second, and the floodgates opened from there.

Hendrix Lapierre, who spent last season in Washington, scored in his first game with Pittsburgh to make it 4-0. Here’s the goal:

Filip Hallander scored less than three minutes later and finished with a goal and two assists. Robertson added a shorthanded goal in the third, and Egor Chinakhov capped it with a power-play marker off feeds from Erik Karlsson and Rickard Rakell.

Vladar went the distance for Philadelphia and made 31 saves on 38 shots. It was a rough way for the Flyers to christen their home schedule in front of a TNT crowd that had been buzzing all evening.

Silovs came into camp in a three-way fight for the crease with Sergei Murashov and Joel Blomqvist. He went 19-12-8 with a 3.07 GAA last season. Two opening-night starts with Pittsburgh have now produced two zeroes, and he gets the Canadiens at PPG Paints Arena on Saturday.
