There’s a new name atop the Hurricanes playoff shutout list.

Frederik Andersen stopped all 18 shots he faced in Carolina’s 4-0 Game 4 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday at the Bell Centre. His fifth career playoff shutout as a Hurricane passed Cam Ward — who backstopped Carolina to its only Stanley Cup in 2006 — for the franchise record.

Andersen now sits one ahead of Ward with the Canes a single win away from a shot at another Cup.

His third shutout of the 2026 playoffs also broke a franchise record. Ward (in 2006 and 2009), Kevin Weekes (2002), and Petr Mrazek (2019) all topped out at two in a single postseason. Andersen got there in 12 games.

It wasn’t a heavy workload at the Bell Centre — Jakub Dobes faced 39 shots at the other end — but the Canes didn’t need it to be. Sebastian Aho, Jordan Staal, and Logan Stankoven all scored within a 2:47 stretch of the first period to put Carolina up 3-0.

Andrei Svechnikov tacked on an empty-netter late in the third to make it 4-0.

The shutout pushed Andersen to 11-1 this postseason with a 1.44 goals-against average and .928 save percentage. He’s also 6-0 on the road, becoming just the fifth NHL goalie ever to win each of his first six road starts in a single playoff year.

Carolina hasn’t been back to a Stanley Cup Final since Ward and the 2006 crew. Game 5 goes Friday in Raleigh at 8 p.m. ET, with Andersen a win away from a chance to finish what Ward started.
