Alex Ovechkin embarrassed the Montreal Canadiens and then took a picture with their moms.

Ovechkin scored a hat trick for the Washington Capitals in their 9-2 win over Montreal on New Year’s Eve. The Montreal player’s moms traveled with the team to Washington, DC as part of a “Mother’s trip”.

The Habs moms were hoping to see their team beat Washington, but instead, they got the Alex Ovechkin show. Ovi dominated the Habs with three goals and is now only 88 goals back of Wayne Gretzky for the all-time record.

After the game, the Montreal moms went down to the locker room to meet up with their sons. Instead of finding their boys, the moms ran into Ovechkin in the halls of Capital One Arena. They asked to take a picture with the Great 8 and Ovechkin obliged.

Hockey Le Magazine, a website that covers the Montreal Canadiens, posted a hilarious photo on Facebook of Ovechkin posing with the Habs’ moms.

“The mothers of the Canadiens de Montréal players present in Washington had the opportunity to pose with the living legend, Alex Ovechkin, yesterday afternoon,” Hockey Le Magazine wrote. “A nice memory.”

What a legendary move from Ovi. He’s truly been Montreal’s “daddy” in his career with 37 goals in 54 games against the Habs. It’s only fitting he poses with the moms of the team.

The Montreal moms appeared to love their visit to Washington, as they got a full tour of DC. Among the stops on the tour were the National Mall and the Lincoln Memorial.

After this great photo moment, we’d be upset if Ovechkin doesn’t use the “I’m your mom’s favorite player” chirp to a Habs player next time the two teams faceoff.
