Alex Ovechkin is inevitable.

The Washington Capitals were pushed into overtime by the Montreal Canadiens after the Habs staged a third-period comeback to tie the game at two. However, it only took a few minutes into overtime for Ovechkin to win it for Washington.

Ovechkin opened the scoring for the Capitals on the power play in the first period and then picked up a primary assist on Anthony Beauvillier’s goal in the middle frame.

Of course, Ovi then won it in overtime for Washington.

Shockingly, this was Ovechkin’s first career overtime goal in the playoffs. His second goal of the game was the 74th playoff goal in his career, moving him into a tie for 13th-most all-time with Joe Pavelski. Pavelski played in 201 playoff games while Ovechkin reached that mark in just 152 games.

The Capitals were huge favorites in this series — and this game — but the Canadiens gave them a scare in the third period. Montreal ended up outshooting Washington 35-32 in the game but only one team had Ovechkin on its side.

Washington will look to take a 2-0 series lead on home ice on Wednesday night. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. EDT between the Montreal Canadiens and Washington Capitals in Game 2 at Capital One Arena.
