The Battle of Pennsylvania belongs to Philadelphia.

Cam York ended a goalless, gut-wrenching Game 6 with a wrist shot from the point at 17:32 of overtime, sending the Flyers past the Penguins 1-0 and into the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time in a full season since 2012.

York’s shot beat Arturs Silovs short-side off the bar. He flipped his stick into the crowd in celebration. Pretty good way to bag your first career playoff goal.

“Just tried to put it there,” York told reporters. “We knew that it was going to be a greasy one. It felt really good to see that one go in.”

Matvei Michkov, scratched in Game 5, picked up the primary assist on the winner.

Dan Vladar was the other story. He stopped all 42 Penguins shots for his second shutout of the series and a 1.16 goals-against average across six games. Vladar tweaked his hand in Game 3, played anyway, and just kept stacking saves.

Pittsburgh was trying to become the fifth team in NHL history to win a series after trailing 3-0. They got within a game.

“We were a shot away from going back to Pittsburgh for Game 7,” Sidney Crosby said after the loss. “It comes down to bounces sometimes. Putting yourself in that position is tough. I think we all had a lot of belief we could dig ourselves out of it. It’s just unfortunate we got behind early in the series.”

Crosby skated over to console Silovs, who finished with 31 saves, before heading down the tunnel. Olivia Dean’s “Man I Need” was already blasting through the building.

Rick Tocchet got the job done in his first season behind the Flyers bench.

“It’s been a long time,” Tocchet said. “I know there’s been a lot of frustration.”

Carolina is next. The Hurricanes swept the Senators in Round 1 and have been waiting since the weekend. Round 2 starts Friday.

Per the Associated Press, this was also the first scoreless tie to head to overtime in a playoff game since Edmonton-Winnipeg in 2021. The Jets won that one 1-0 too.
